Michael A. Wasylik, MD. has served as Chairman of the Medical Services and Innovation Committee for the Florida Medical Association. Representing the FMA, he is a member of the Florida Blue Physician Advisory Committee, and the Humana National Advisory Committee. He has also served on numerous other managed-care advisory committees dedicated to improving the quality of patient care.
Dr. Wasylik practices at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa and has served as Chief of Orthopaedics, Chief of the Quality Committee, and in 2004-2005 served as Chief of the Medical Staff. In 2013, Dr. Wasylik was elected to a second term as Chief of the Medical Staff for 2015-2016. In addition, Dr. Wasylik has been elected to serve as President of the Florida Orthopedic Society for the 2014-2015 term.
Dr. Wasylik also serves as the voting representative of the Florida Medical Association on the American Medical Association's Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement which develops performance measures and practice guidelines to improve quality of care.
He has been appointed by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration to the State Consumer Health Information and Policy Advisory Council, whose role is to assess quality and performance measures and report health care information. Also for the Agency for Health Care Administration, he has served as Chairman of the Physicians' Data Technical Workgroup which reports physician performance measures. He has been appointed by the Secretary of AHCA to the Data Transparency Steering Committee.
He participated in the development and implementation of standardized order sets for treatment of joint replacement patients, and in the implementation of hospital evidence-based measures required by JACO.
Dr. Wasylik is a graduate of the Ohio State University College of Medicine. After completing his orthopaedic residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, he practiced in the United States Navy. He received an honorable discharge at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He has served as President of the Hillsborough County Medical Association and has received their Outstanding Physician of the Year Award. He has also received the Certificate of Appreciation Award from the Florida Medical Association, and the Distinguished Physician of the Year for St. Joseph's Hospital.
